5 Places in Ireland that Harry Potter fans will love

Table of Contents

Harry Potter fans exist in big numbers all over the world and the Emerald Isle is not an exception to that. While there are no doubt more Harry Potter sites in Great Britain, a variety of Irish destinations will tickle the fancy of any Potterhead.

So where can a Potter fan go on the Emerald Isle for a little taste of the wizarding world? Here are five places in Ireland that Harry Potter fans will want to visit.

1. The Cursed Goblet (Belfast) – A Pop-Up Potions Class

The Cursed Goblet (Belfast) – A Pop-Up Potions Class

How are your medicine-making skills? Need some practice? We’ll just point you to that place — and no, it’s not Hogwarts, but it’s still pretty magical. The Cursed Goblet is currently a pop-up experience at Parlor Bar in Belfast where upon entering, you’ll be loaned a robe and a wand.

Once properly dressed, you can then enjoy a two-hour self-guided experience with instructions on how to brew, extract and conjure up three delicious magical potions. Tickets cost £30 and include three alcoholic concoctions (yes, you heard right—it’s at the bar after all!).

2. The Cauldron (Dublin) – A Magical Cocktail Experience

The Cauldron (Dublin) – A Magical Cocktail Experience

This Harry Potter-themed pop-up bar opened in Ireland’s capital in 2023, creating a magical cocktail experience for Dubliners. It will be back again this year for “Volume II” and we can’t wait.

Last year, the bar featured an immersion class where visiting muggles could conjure drinkable elixirs with a wand—while dressed as a wizard, of course. To be notified when they launch their 2024 tickets, sign up for their mailing list.

3. The Cliffs of Moher – A Dramatic Filming Location

The Cliffs of Moher – A Dramatic Filming Location

Thanks to the wizardry of CGI film-making, you may have never noticed that nearby Lemon Rock features alongside the Cliffs of Moher in the sixth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The filmmakers used CGI magic to combine the Cliffs of Moher with Lemon Rock for the dramatic Horcrux scene in the cave.

Do you remember the scene where Harry and Dumbledore are standing on a rock that seems to lead into a sea cave in the face of a high cliff? The rock is, in fact, Lemon Rock, and the cliffs above are the Cliffs of Moher.

The Long Room (Dublin) – A Hogwarts-Like Library

Part of Trinity College Dublin’s Old Library, the Long Room shows a striking resemblance to the library used in the filming of the Harry Potter movies. Although it wasn’t actually used in the films, Harry Potter fans who visit the Long Room are always fascinated by its busts of philosophers and writers – not to mention the nearby Book of Kells, which isn’t a medieval spell book but has the look of one.

5. Dublin Wizard Con – A Gathering Place for Harry Potter Fans

Dublin has an annual convention for Harry Potter fans, known as Dublin Wizard Con. After successful conferences in 2018 and 2019, it is happening every year now.

Dublin Wizard Con is a fan-made, fan-focused event that aims to connect with wizards through magical interactive activities, all located in Dublin’s RDS Arena. And you can bet that like last year, there will be some fabulous costumes in attendance.
